Animal Safari

NEWS RELEASE
Aug. 24 event at Zoo for animal sponsors
Open to all: Animal talks at the Zoo
Milwaukee County Zoo, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Go Behind-the-Scenes at the Zoo

What does “pachyderm” mean and how are pachyderms cared for at the Milwaukee County Zoo? You can find out at the Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s (ZSM) Animal Safari on Aug. 24, sponsored by Welch’s and Pick ‘n Save. Animal sponsors can tour behind-the-scenes areas of the Zoo that are normally closed to the public. You can visit the Commissary to see where the Zoo stores food for the animals. You can also check out the Aquatic & Reptile Center, pachyderm areas and more. All zoogoers, even those who are not animal sponsors, can enjoy animal talks by Zoo Pride volunteers and learn about the ZSM’s Sponsor an Animal program. Tours, however, are open to animal sponsors only. The featured animal to sponsor on Aug. 24 is Brittany, one of the Zoo’s two African elephants.

What: The Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s (ZSM’s) Animal Safari, sponsored by Welch’s and Pick ‘n Save.
Where: Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Bluemound Rd., Milwaukee.
When:  Aug. 24, 2013, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Behind-the-scenes Zoo tours run 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Details: This event features behind-the-scenes Zoo tours for people who sponsor animals through the ZSM’s Sponsor an Animal program. Everyone, not just animal sponsors, is invited to hear animal talks, see enrichment “toys” for the animals, and check out kids’ art projects made with recycled materials.
To sponsor an animal: Call (414) 258-2333, see www.zoosociety.org, or sponsor an animal at the event on Aug. 24 for admission to behind-the-scenes Zoo tours. The non-profit ZSM’s Sponsor an Animal program helps support all animals at the Zoo.
Featured animal to sponsor Aug. 24: Brittany, one of the Zoo’s two African elephants, for $25. The sponsorship includes a plush-toy elephant, special recognition and more.
