Notes From the Field, October - December 2009
November 4, 2009
From Stefanie McLaughlin, assistant conservation coordinator (from the Zoological Society’s office in Milwaukee, Wis.):
Dear All,
Gay and Patrick (and the cargo) have finally made it to Mbandaka!
After being bumped from a flight earlier this week (a common occurrence in Democratic Republic of Congo), they were successfully able to fly out today (despite a few worries that they would be bumped again).
They are eagerly awaiting their trip upriver to Etate — it will be their first in almost a year because they spent the spring field season surveying an area north of Salonga in collaboration with the African Wildlife Foundation. As I write this, they are busy getting the supplies packed and the pirogues loaded up so that they can leave for the field on Sunday.
