A la Carte
This group enjoys the fun and food at last year’s a la Carte. From left are Joshua Kalis of Milwaukee; Stephanie Brooks, Jerry Brooks, John Brooks and Sherry Brooks of Oak Creek; and Stacey and Mark Petersen of Oak Creek.

Milwaukee is fast becoming a food-lover’s destination: In the past several years, the local food scene has garnered attention from national magazines and newspapers such as the New York Times. Taste the best the city has to offer at a la Carte. This food and music fest features more than 25 eateries, including popular newcomers such as Maxie’s Southern Comfort and old favorites like Joey Buona’s. Adults can sample wines at the Giraffe Village Wine Tent, while families will love face-painting, clowns and games at the Northwestern Mutual Family Farm. Enjoy live rock and jazz music every night on six stages throughout the Zoo.

Among the acts are Phil Stacey from “American Idol” and the rock band Head East. Walk off the calories when you visit the animals; all exhibits will be open (the Herb & Nada Mahler Family Aviary closes at dusk). Get the scoop on marine mammal diets at the special summer exhibit Sting Ray & Shark Reef, sponsored by Sundance Vacations, which lets visitors feed and touch live rays and sharks; admission is $2, and animal food is extra.
