Animal Safari

Your Adventure Awaits

Did you know there’s more to the Milwaukee County Zoo than most guests see? Animal sponsors can venture deeper into the Zoo experience at this behind-the-scenes event.  Knowledgeable tour guides will take you off the beaten path to discover how keepers groom, feed and entertain the animals at the Zoo. Tours may include:  Aquatic & Reptile Center, Winter Quarters, giraffes, hippos and more!  Animal sponsors can also enter a drawing for a chance to win fun prizes, enjoy a complimentary cupcake and receive half-off admission for the special summer exhibit – BODY WORLDS: ANIMAL INSIDE OUT, sponsored by Sendik’s Food Markets.

Not an animal sponsor? Not a problem! Sponsor an animal or join the Kids Conservation Club anytime through the day of the event, and you too can join the tours! Tours run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Although tours are open to animal sponsors only, all zoo-goers can enjoy activities in the Peck Welcome Center. See examples of enrichment items that members of Zoo Pride, the Society’s volunteer auxiliary, make for the animals. Check out our Sensory Safari program, which caters to visitors with special needs, allowing them to touch different animal mounts. Children will enjoy animal-themed crafts and temporary tattoos. Kids can also pick up a scavenger hunt sheet in the U.S. Bank Gathering Place for a chance to win animal sponsorships and other fun prizes.

Kids’ Green Art Contest

All youth 17 years old & under can participate in the Kids’ Green Art Contest. Create works of art out of discarded materials such as tin-can critters and soda-bottle birds.  Projects will be displayed in the Peck Welcome Center and judged during Animal Safari.  Registration deadline is Aug. 11. This year’s theme is South America. To register or for more information, click here.
