Sunset ZoofariCatch a warm summer breeze and some good tunes on six Wednesday evenings at the Milwaukee County Zoo’s Sunset Zoofaris. This event is a chance to see animals at twilight and hear a different live band play each week on the Flamingo Café patio. Visit all of the Zoo’s animal buildings (the Herb & Nada Mahler Family Aviary closes at dusk). Stop by the special summer exhibit, Sting Ray & Shark Reef, sponsored by Sundance Vacations ($2 per person), and the Zoo’s new flamingo exhibit (see cover for details). Bring a picnic dinner or purchase treats from the many food stations in the new U.S. Bank Gathering Place or in Lakeview Place restaurant.

The Zoo closes at its regular weekday time of 5 p.m., and then re-opens at 6 p.m. for Sunset Zoofaris. The bands play between 6:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. (In bad weather, they’ll be indoors.) Bobby Way and the Fabulous Wayouts will play the first Wednesday this year. Other bands are The Orphans (rock music, July 2), Sweet Tarts (dance music, July 9), Breakfast Klub (‘80s tunes, July 16), 5 Card Studs (contemporary swing band, July 23) and the Pink Flamingoes (Top 40 hits, July 30).
