Who’s that 7-year-old boy in 1956 visiting the Washington Park Zoo with his family? Yes, it’s Chuck Wikenhauser, who grew up to become director of the Milwaukee County Zoo. He is celebrating his 20th year with the Zoo in 2010. At the time this photo was taken, Chuck’s family lived in Illinois and decided to come to Wisconsin to visit the Zoo—five years before it opened in new quarters on Blue Mound Road. Shown here is Chuck’s mom, Mary Wikenhauser, with sisters Carolyn, 14, and Jane, 5.Photo provided by Chuck Wikenhauser
