Cans for Cash for Critters (C3)

Cans for Cash for Critters

On Your Mark, Get Set, Go:

Did you know that a rummage sale can help animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo? The Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s (ZSM’s) new Cans for Cash for Critters (C3) program is a recycling challenge open to schools, families, youth groups and companies. Recycle or sell unused items in your home, give the proceeds to the non-profit Zoological Society and win fun prizes such as animal sponsorships. Proceeds will benefit all the animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo through the Zoological Society’s Sponsor an Animal program.

Beyond Cans

What can you recycle? Anything that you can turn in for money! Check with your local recycling plant on what it can offer. Got unused items in your home? Hold a rummage sale. Or come up with another way to help the Earth and raise funds. Be creative in your recycling efforts! (Please note: Do not bring recyclables to the Zoo. We cannot accept them. We will only accept funds raised through recycling.)
You can sign up for C3 as an individual or with a team. Funds and tracking forms are due Friday, Aug. 6, 2010. You can track your progress and submit money online beginning Feb. 14, or mail them to us by “snail” mail.  Winners will be announced at a Bash for Trash Ceremony at Animal Safari* on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010.

*Animal Safari is the Zoological Society’s behind-the-scenes event for animal sponsors. Everyone can attend the event. The behind-the-scenes tours, however, are reserved for animal sponsors. To sponsor an animal, click here.

Why Recycle?

If you want to help the environment, think small! Did you know that little things you can do in your own home can help the Earth? Consider aluminum soda cans. They’re 100% recyclable, and can be recycled over and over again. Recycling just one can saves enough energy to run a TV for four hours or a 100-watt bulb for four hours. Think about items in your house that you don’t use very much (such as, say, that pasta machine). Instead of throwing it out and filling up a landfill, you could sell it at a garage sale. The C3 program lets you recycle and help all your favorite animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo—and in the wild—at the same time.
