What's black and white and wet all over? Penguins

On the Rocks
NO, we haven’t concocted a fancy new drink to serve at fund-raisers. We are creating walkways along the rock work in the Humboldt penguin habitat. The pathways will give the penguins a chance to explore their surroundings. The penguins will have a whole new perspective as they look out to see you! Since the habitat is center-stage, these little guys will certainly feel like “rock stars”!

In the Rookery
The Milwaukee County Zoo has an excellent track record in hatching and raising Humboldt penguin chicks. The nesting area (rookery), located behind the scenes, needs an upgrade. Animal staff needs greater access to check on the birds while they nest, incubate eggs and care for their young offspring in the renovated nesting boxes.

In the Water
When the habitat was constructed 20 years ago, the design was state-of-the-art. That was then! Now, we can change the glass to give you a better view of the penguins as they “fly” through the water. Goodbye, metal dividers!

On the Web
We plan on installing two penguin cams that will give you a chance to check in and check out the penguins 24-7.  Imagine watching them preen, eat, swim or care for new chicks in the improved nestbox area.
