Trip to Farmer’s Market & Zoo

How would you like to shop at the largest producer-only farmers market in the United States and then check out a great zoo to boot? You can on our spring excursion to the Madison Farmers Market at the Capitol Square in Madison, Wis. There you can peruse produce from nearly 200 area farmers. In addition to wholesome fare, there will be live music, coffee, sweet treats and more. While at the farmers market, be sure to stop inside the State Capitol Building and view "A Century of Stories: Celebrating 100 Years at the Capitol." The 20-panel exhibit, located in the rotunda, was created by the Wisconsin Historical Society and will include more than 100 photographs, documents and stories of the building. Another historical stop is the Wisconsin Historical Museum located across the street from the Capitol Building. Admission to the museum is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 and up.
Once you’ve worked up your appetite, visit a nearby restaurant on State Street or the Capitol Square. In the afternoon we’ll head over to the Henry Vilas Zoo, situated in a beautiful park setting. The George Fait North American Prairie exhibit is a must see. You can watch the bison roam, prairie dogs dig and badgers burrow. The zoo also boasts a Big Cat Complex, Herpetarium and many other exhibits. Space is limited, so register now.
Registration starts at 7 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Zoo and a yummy breakfast is included in the Flamingo Café. Buses leave at 7:30 a.m. and return about 6:30 p.m. Tour includes transportation on restroom-equipped motor coaches, tip for bus driver and beverages donated by PepsiAmericas®; however you are responsible for your own lunch. A snack is included on the return trip. (Note to those with allergies: snacks may include dairy and peanut byproducts.) This excursion is open only to Zoological Society members and their guests.
