If milk does a body good, then give it your best gulp in a milk-chugging contest. It's just part of the fun at the Milwaukee County Zoo's two-day farm fest. Held in the Northwestern Mutual Family Farm—the last working farm in the city of Milwaukee—this harvest celebration has something for everyone.
Want a chance to touch animals? Visit the Stackner Animal Encounter area to see and pet animals from bunnies to Cochin chickens. Also, view donkeys, hogs and the Zoo's new horse, Gypsy, at their barnyards. Discover how sweet foods such as honey, maple sugar and hand-turned ice cream are produced (and try some!). Children under age 10 and weighing 70 pounds or less can show how much "childpower" they have in the Pedal Tractor-Pull Contest, sponsored by CNH.
For adults, a small farmers market offers produce, gourmet hot sauces, and pancake mixes. Watch basket-weaving demonstrations. Chat with University of Wisconsin Extension master gardeners. And enjoy the catchy twang of the Bluegrass Allstars.
