Anyone can sponsor an animal in the Milwaukee County Zoo through the Zoological Society. Not only do sponsors get the satisfaction of helping the Society support the Zoo, they get a special day dedicated to them. Animal Safari, sponsored by Lifeway Foods, may include tours of giraffes, rhinos, Winter Quarters and the Aquatic & Reptile Center basement. If you’re not an animal sponsor, you can become one that day and still go on the tours. The Zoological Society offers different levels of sponsorship including Kids Conservation Club for $20, limited-time offers that include a plush toy or the choice of almost any animal you want to sponsor.
During Animal Safari, all zoogoers will be able to see enrichment items that are made just for the animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Volunteers will demonstrate Sensory Safari, which caters to visitors with special needs by allowing them to touch animal mounts. Plus, kids can get a temporary animal tattoo, create animal-themed crafts and play Safari Bingo for a chance to win prizes.
While at Animal Safari, check out the Kids’ Green Art Contest. Children 17 and younger will display their works of art made from discarded materials. This year’s theme is “Animals in Asia.” Projects will be displayed in the Peck Welcome Center and judged that day.
