Leaping Lemurs

Lemur

Lemurs are found only on the African island of Madagascar and a few smaller neighboring islands. There are more than 100 lemur species. Ring-tailed lemurs are found in the southern portion of the island. They are easily recognizable by their long tail of 13 alternating black and white bands. Lemurs are amazing jumpers and climbers. They can’t grip tree limbs with their tails, but they use their tails for balance. While other lemurs spend most of their time in trees, ring-tailed lemurs spend most of their time on the ground.
