Internship & Volunteer Opportunities

Fall Leaves Left

Internships are available in different departments throughout the year. The Conservation Education Department hires multiple college interns in the summer to assist with camps and classes. The Communications Department hires interns in the fall, spring and summer to assist with public relations and social media. Our Special Events team hires interns to work closely with them for event planning and fundraising duties.

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Conservation Education Department is pleased to provide a paid internship opportunity for current college students or recent graduates as part of our summer education (Zoo Camp) programs. This 10-week internship runs from the beginning of June until mid-August. Interns hired will help educate children ages 3-14 about science, animals, and conservation through interactive teaching strategies.

Successful candidates will assist instructors in classroom educational activities, lead Zoo tours, supervise and evaluate high school assistants (volunteers), prepare classroom materials, and other duties related to Zoo Camp as assigned. Interns will receive ongoing training and professional mentoring from Society Conservation Education staff and experienced Zoo Pride volunteers.

Internship positions are open to any major of study for those passionate about education, wildlife, natural resources, and/or social sciences. This program does not offer direct animal handling or veterinary experience and does not provide housing.

The application window for Summer 2022 is now closed. Please check back in January to apply for Summer 2023. If you have any additional questions, please email Ana Dixon at anad@zoosociety.org.

Are you 14-18 years old and interested in science, animals, working with kids, or simply volunteering in your community? The Zoological Society’s Conservation Education Department provides opportunities for high school students to volunteer in our Summer Zoo Camps. Selected students spend two consecutive weeks assisting with camp activities, Zoo tours and general prep with the guidance of a college mentor. The application window for Summer 2022 has closed! Please contact Paul Vandermeuse at paulv@zoosociety.org with any questions.
