Go wild and dig in the trash. Well, don’t actually do that; we just want you to look around for used and recyclable items that can be repurposed into art. The Zoological Society of Milwaukee is hosting its Green Art Contest for children ages 17 and under. Art submissions will be displayed at the Milwaukee County Zoo on Aug. 27. Participation in the Green Art Contest does not include admission into the Zoo.

Kids will learn about animals and conservation while creating a piece of art out of various discarded materials such as metal cans, plastic bottles and containers, paper, cardboard, etc. This year’s theme is “North & South Poles.” Kids of all artistic levels are encouraged to turn trash into treasures and display their art pieces for everyone to enjoy. Contest entries will be divided by age, and a winner will be chosen from each age category. Winners will receive prizes such as animal sponsorships and plush-toy animals.
