Are you enjoying the nice weather? The Zoo’s grizzly bear family sure seems to be enjoying it as they are out and about more in their habitat. While Bozeman has his own place to enjoy over by the harbor seals, his brothers Chinook and Brian and their mother Ronnie all live together in their habitat near the elk and caribou habitats. It’s easy to tell which bear is Bozeman, but do you know how to tell Ronnie, Chinook and Brian apart?
- Mama bear Ronnie is smaller in size than her two sons. She tends to enjoy hanging out either in the doorways of the habitat or up on her “throne” — a rock near the elk side of the habitat that angles up towards the public. Ronnie loves to sit out at the very end of the rock, so be sure to say hi to her!
- Chinook is larger in size and also has much darker fur. His favorite place to lie around is near the back of the habitat next to the elk habitat.
- Brian’s fur is more blonde in color than Ronnie and Chinook, and he likes to spend time laying in the hammock. His other favorite place to be is wherever Ronnie is — he’s a big mama’s boy!
While her boys can sometimes get on her nerves and make her a little cranky, Ronnie still takes care of them no matter how old they get. In the spirit of appreciating Ronnie, now is an excellent time to show appreciation for your own “mama bear.”
